The Lakeland Trails Marathon in Coniston on 6 June 2027 is one of most scenic trail marathons in the UK.

Based from Coniston, the route takes in a complete circuit of Coniston Water along fully marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways. The course includes the idyllic beauty spot of Tarn Hows and the elevated Beacon Tarn, and panoramic views of Coniston Water and the surrounding peaks of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags.

As well as the Marathon, there is a Half Marathon distance that utilises the first section of the marathon course as far as Tarn Hows, before heading back to Coniston. Both the Marathon and Half Marathon distances can be run as a competitive race, or as a challenge for less competitive runners and Nordic/fitness walkers.

There is also a 10km route that also takes in Tarn Hows for maximum scenery delights, and a 5km along the first section of the 10km up to Tarn Hows Cottage before splitting for a scenic descent through Lags Coppice.
