The Doko Challenge North
Sunday, 15 June 2025
Roundhay, Leeds, UK
The Doko Challenge is a unique event with the Doko Challenge North edition in Leeds on 15 June 2025.
The event planned for 15 June 2025 has been cancelled.
Historically, part of the Gurkha selection process sees aspiring recruits tasked with ascending a gruelling course in the foothills of the Himalayas carrying a traditional 'Doko' basket loaded with 25kg of sand. They must complete the course within 46 minutes in order to proceed through to the next round of selection.
Doko Challenge entrants run or walk the undulating 5km cross-country course through the grounds of Roundhay Park with a weighted Doko strapped to their back. There is a choice of a 5kg, 10kg or 15kg weight depending on the level of challenge they want to undertake. The goal is to complete the challenge within 46 minutes.
Participants are encouraged to fundraise in support of The Gurkha Welfare Trust and their team in Nepal, who help to keep Gurkha veterans and widows safe and have the means to live with dignity.
