Governor Backyard Ultra
Saturday, 19 October 2024
The Citadel, Dover, UK
The Governor Backyard Ultra on 19 October 2024 is a last one standing endurance event in Dover, Kent.
This unique 'prison-themed' event is entirely based within the high walls of HMP Hellfire. The prison is built on the site of the largest fortress in the UK.
The route starts from the main prison block, called Hell House, then passes through a small tunnel into the fortress' revetment. This is where the prisoners will complete the majority of their exercise, just as the prisoners of yesteryear did. The rules of the event are simple; at 10:00 all prisoners will start their first 4.167 mile yard, referred to as 'exercise' and this will be repeated on the hour, every hour, until there is only one prisoner able to complete the 4.167 mile exercise.
The last prisoner able to complete a yard will be awarded the Governor's Pardon. The last remaining prisoner will no longer be referred to by number, but by the title 'Governor.'
There is also a 7 Hour Challenge that runs simultaneously with the main Governor Backyard Ultra, however the focus for this event will be encouragement to participate and the chance to immerse yourself in the BYU community, as well as offer a great training opportunity in an epic location.
