Starting in Newcastle's city centre, on the Central Motorway, runners are taken across the iconic Tyne Bridge before heading into Gateshead. The first half of the route is largely made up of long, straight roads, with a gradual climb between miles 3 and 5 followed by some downhill running to mile 8. There is an uphill section between miles 8 and 12. From there, the course drops downhill towards South Shields before finishing along the seafront.
